Celebrities are lending their support to a fan petition.
Neighbours is sadly coming to an end after 37 years, after Channel 5 announced it was dropping the show and an alternative broadcaster was unable to be found.
Plenty of the soap’s current and former stars have spoken out about the cancellation, but now a hosting of British TV names have thrown their star power behind an effort to save the show.
In a video shared by the ‘Save Neighbours’ Twitter account on March 5, we see familiar faces like This Morning’s Holly Willoughby, Lorraine Kelly, Loose Women’s Charlene White, RuPaul’s Drag Race star and Celebrity Big Brother UK winner Courtney Act, model and presenter Katie Piper, and The Masked Singer UK series 3 winner Natalie Imbruglia talk about the show.
The stars mention all the iconic characters, how the soap has been a nostalgic institution in Britain for decades, and how it’s really been excelling in on-screen diversity for the last few years.
The petition mentioned is the video currently stands at over 64,000 signatures, and you can sign it here if you’d like to do your bit to save the soap.
Ahead of the final episodes being filmed in June, it has been confirmed that the soap’s writers have sketched out an ending, and there’s been plenty of talk about getting some iconic former stars to return — could we really see Kylie Minogue reprising her overalls one final time? Jason Donovan had something to say about that…
What we do know for sure at the moment though is that the ending will be celebratory and not feature any major tragedies.
