He tries to get his nephew back on track.
Home and Away’s Tane Parata steps in with a touching plan to help his nephew Nikau on UK screens next week.
The Parata family have recently been thrown into turmoil after Tane’s older brother Ari (Rob Kipa-Williams) made a false confession to Matthew Montgomery’s murder in order to protect his fiancée Mia Anderson and her daughter Chloe.
Upcoming episodes on Channel 5 see the stress of the situation start to take its toll on Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo).
Nikau is devastated that he’s likely to lose Ari for good and he continues to disapprove of the ongoing cover-up surrounding Matthew’s death.
As Nikau realises that he can’t stand the waiting game until Ari’s sentencing, he considers leaving Summer Bay.
Tane (Ethan Browne) tries to talk Nikau out of it, but he discovers that Nikau is experiencing painful reminders of losing his own father.
Later, Tane informs Mia that he has a plan to help Nikau, which will involve leaving the Bay for a while.
Tane takes Nikau out of town for a rite of passage, presenting him with a family heirloom.
At a riverside camping site, Tane hands over a Taiaha – a traditional Māori weapon – which once belonged to Nikau’s father.
Tane explains that the technique and knowledge of how to use the Taiaha is passed down through generations in Māori culture. The Taiaha can provide spiritual guidance in difficult times.
Although Nikau faces some early struggles in mastering the technique, Tane proves to be a patient teacher.
Even when Nikau reaches breaking point and doubts his abilities, Tane helps to inspire him by putting on a demonstration near the water.
Fortunately, Nikau is given the drive to keep persevering.
Will the trip have the desired outcome?
