Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe opens up over co-parenting with ex-partner Greg Lake

“We’re a family and always will be.”

Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe has opened up about her unique parenting situation, as she shares responsibilities for her child with her ex-partner Greg Lake.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Metcalfe explained that she and Lake have managed to stay friends and successfully co-parent their four-year-old son Daye since their relationship came to an end in 2020.

“We made a decision from the start that we wanted this to be good for Daye. There was no bad energy [at the end] and I don’t even like using the phrase ‘split up’. We’ll never be split, we’re a family and always will be.”

Metcalfe continued: “I never want us to feel split, for Daye, and I’ll do everything I can to make sure of that. It was a case of: ‘This is us now and how do we make this gear change and not have Daye feel it?'”

At the moment, Daye lives with his mum full-time near Manchester but sees his dad in Newcastle every other weekend and during school holidays.

The relationship between the two parents is very amicable, as Metcalfe says she loves Lake “as a friend” and doesn’t see why that should change.

“Obviously it’s had its ups and downs but I think when you have two good people who want to do the best for their child, there’s no reason for it not to be just that. I’m really proud of how we both parent and put Daye’s interests first,” she added.

The couple were together for eight years, from 2012 to 2020 and welcomed Daye in June 2017. Lake is best known for his appearance on Geordie Shore while Metcalfe found fame playing Mercedes McQueen on the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

Recent storylines involving Metcalfe’s character Mercedes and her son Bobby Costello has shocked fans.

Metcalfe recently revealed that “his behaviour becomes more obviously worrying” and will be “unnerving” to watch Mercedes continue to deny that something is wrong.
