Coronation Street stars reunite in sweet picture

Two Coronation Street stars reunited in a sweet picture posted to social media on March 2, several years after they both appeared on the long-running soap.

Katherine Kelly posted a picture to Instagram Stories with fellow soap star Julie Hesmondhalgh, in which she wrote that Julie was her “favourite” as they smiled for the camera.

They acted alongside each other on the soap for six years, with Katherine playing Becky MacDonald from 2006 to 2012 and Julie playing Hayley Cropper from 1998 to 2014.

This isn’t the first time the pair have reunited either, having appeared in award-winning show Happy Valley together.

Katherine has clearly been feeling a little nostalgic recently, also posting a 10-year anniversary tribute to her leaving the show, prompting Corrie fans to beg for her to return as Becky.

In January, she posted a photo of her character wearing a ball gown while standing at the doorway to Roy’s Rolls, and another photo walking down the cobbled street in a silver dress, captioning it: “A decade* ago… she flew away @coronationstreet @itv.”

Her character was involved in several notorious and notable storylines, which included her drunken rampages, two miscarriages, and her desire to adopt a child. She left after divorcing Steve McDonald to move to Barbados, leaving the door open for her to return.

Julie’s character Hayley also had major storylines, including her experiences as a transgender person as well as drama after she was taken hostage.

Her departure from the soap saw Hayley battling pancreatic cancer before ending her own life to minimise her suffering.

Though both actors have been outspoken about their love of the soap, and have clear made excellent friendships from the show, neither have plans to return (though Hayley’s return would be a little more difficult given her death).

Katherine and Julie have gone on to major roles after leaving Corrie, with Katherine appearing in Mr Selfridge, Cheat, Lia, The Night Manager, Happy Valley, and Doctor Who spin-off Class.

As well as Happy Valley, Julie also starred in the David Tennant and Olivia Coleman-led Broadchurch and The Pact.
