The end is nigh.
Neighbours has wrapped filming forever today (June 10), ahead of August’s series finale.
In case you’ve somehow missed the news in the last few months, the long-running Australian soap is sadly coming to an end after its UK broadcaster Channel 5 dropped the show from its schedule.
To mark their last day on set, a big group of the Ramsay Street stars – including current regulars and a few returning stars – posed for a picture at the set of the Kennedys’ house, which you can see for yourself below:
Commenting on a bittersweet moment, executive producer Jason Herbison’s statement read: “We all knew this day was coming but until we were here in this moment when the very last scene was filmed, it was hard to express how we would all feel.
“Of course, it is sad and tears were shed, but we’re also enormously proud. 37 years is an incredible achievement and that should be celebrated. We’ve also been incredibly touched by the response from our viewers all over the world.
“Neighbours is more than a TV show to many people. They see us as part of the family and we feel privileged to have been invited into their homes, and I know the legacy of Neighbours will live on for many years.”
Kylie Minogue – back for the special one-hour send-off as Charlene Robinson – recently addressed the “pressure” she felt to revisit Neighbours when news of its cancellation spread.
“I was only in the show for two and a half years. But it just exploded – England just went crazy about it,” she told US talkshow host Seth Myers. “So it’s been with me ever since and it’s been a large part of how I entered into the music industry.
“The show was played twice a day, and people would bunk off school, they changed the office hours. They’re finishing the show, and there was quite a bit of pressure for me to go back, so I shot my scenes back in Australia.”
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 and streams on My5. In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach and streams on 10 Play.
