Neighbours script producer reveals touching moment cut from finale

While the Neighbours finale was a truly touching and important moment in television history, some of the most emotional moments never made it into the final episode.

Neighbours script producer and writer Shane Isheev took to Twitter to share his “favourite moment” that he wrote in the finale. And it was a moment that was cut from the episode due to time restraints.

Isheev shared a photo from the screenplay that showed a scene between Callum (Morgan Baker) and Melanie (Lucinda Cowden) after the latter’s wedding to Ryan Moloney’s Toadie.

“This was my favourite moment to write. Unfortunately, it was cut short for time, so we never got Callum’s beautiful speech. @CowdenLucinda was brilliant (as always),” Isheev wrote on Twitter.

In the short but sweet deleted scene, Callum gives Melanie, his new stepmother, a special gift — a crystal pig ornament. Callum then gives a touching speech to Melanie in which he thanks her for “making our family whole again”.

Callum’s dialogue reads: “When Mum died, I worried a lot about Dad and the kids. Especially living so far away. But I realised the other day, all that worrying has stopped. It’s because you’re here. Thank you for making our family whole again.”

The exchange is then capped off with a screen direction reading “they share another warm embrace”.

Baker originally left Neighbours in 2019 but came back for the show’s final ever episode.

The actor joined a host of famous faces in returning to their Neighbours roles to give the Australian soap a proper send-off. Margot Robbie, Jason Donovan, Kylie Minogue, Natalie Imbruglia and Guy Pearce, amongst others, all returned for the finale.

Neighbours has now come to an end, but catch-up episodes are available via My 5 (UK) and 10 Play (Australia).
