Neighbours fans devastated as filming finishes forever

Neighbours fans are in tears this morning as they attempt to come to terms with the fact filming for the Australian soap has finished forever.

The show has been axed after 37 years after Channel 5 chose not to renew it for financial reasons and now, the final scene has officially been filmed.

Earlier today, the show’s boss, Jason Herbison, released a final cast photo alongside an emotional tribute.

‘We all knew this day was coming but until we were here in this moment when the very last scene was filmed, it was hard to express how we would all feel,’ the producer said.

‘Of course, it is sad and tears were shed, but we’re also enormously proud. 37 years is an incredible achievement and that should be celebrated.

‘We’ve also been incredibly touched by the response from our viewers all over the world. Neighbours is more than a TV show to many people.

‘They see us as part of the family and we feel privileged to have been invited into their homes, and I know the legacy of Neighbours will live on for many years.’

Whether you’ve watched Neighbours for the full 37 years, or you’ve only recently become a fan, it’s a sad day for all.

Taking to Twitter to send messages to the cast and crew, and express their thoughts on the final ‘that’s a wrap’, one user said: ‘To all the Neighbours cast and crew THANK YOU so much for joy you have brought us for 37 years. We will continue to support you & fight for you. Sending love to everyone…’

Sharing the final cast photo, another Neighbours lover typed: ‘End of an era! Cannot believe it’s over! They’ve always been there, what’s it going to be like without our favourite Neighbours! So unbelievably sad!’

With the final ever episode airing on August 1, multiple cast returns have already been announced.

Last week, we exclusively revealed Guy Pearce will be reprising his role as Mike Young.

Pearce will join a prestigious list of the show’s most revered actors playing much-loved characters including Kylie Minogue (Charlene Robinson), Jason Donovan (Scott Robinson), Ian Smith (Harold Bishop), Paul Keane (Des Clarke) and Peter O’Brien (Shane Ramsay).

Natalie Bassingthwaighte (Izzy Hoyland), Daniel MacPherson (Joel Samuel), Melissa Bell (Lucy Robinson), Mark Little (Joe Mangel), Olympia Valance (Paige Smith) and many more will also join.

It’s going to be emotional, that’s for certain!
