Kylie Minogue admits “tears” over filming Neighbours’ final scenes

Kylie Minogue was one of several high-profile stars who returned for the final ever episode of Neighbours, the long-running Australian soap that recently came to an end.

Minogue joined the likes of Jason Donovan, Guy Pearce and Margot Robbie in returning to the roles they played way back when their careers were just starting out to give Neighbours a proper send-off.

Now, Minogue has taken to Instagram to share just how emotional returning to Neighbours was for her.

The singer and actress shared a series of old photos of her and Donovan’s characters alongside one from the recent finale.

She captioned the post: “Yep, there were tears! Congratulations to the @neighbours team for the heart-warming and celebratory finale. You’ll be in my heart always!!!”

Fans were quick to comment on the post, with one writing that Minogue’s return to the show “was poignant and perfect”. Meanwhile, another fan commented: “I had goosebumps when I saw your little green car turn the corner. Love you forever.”

A third fan wrote: “It was very special but you’ve left us wanting more Charlene!”

Indeed, some fans were disappointed that Minogue didn’t have that much dialogue in the episode and thought that she deserved more. Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison commented on that in his in-depth interview with Insertions.us, stating that both Minogue and Donovan didn’t want to “overshadow” anyone else.

“There was one day where they could be in Melbourne together and they cleared their schedules to make it happen,” Herbison said.

“I hadn’t even written the finale at that point, so I could only vaguely tell them how their scenes would fit in. It was a classy and respectful move on their behalf. It didn’t matter to me how much dialogue they had. It was just so special that they wanted to be a part of it and to say thank you.”

Neighbours has now come to an end, but catch-up episodes are available via My 5 (UK) and 10 Play (Australia).
