Will this be a wake-up call for him?

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks’ John-Paul McQueen’s issues with alcohol are set to continue, impacting his relationship with his son.

In upcoming episodes, the struggling schoolteacher will try and prove himself as a father to Matthew-Jesus McQueen with heartbreaking consequences for John-Paul.

His desperation will lead him to attempt to steal alcohol from Price Slice, where he is caught red-handed. Witnessing the situation, Ollie Morgan attempts to talk some sense into John-Paul.

But is he willing to listen?

Later on, he vows to turn his life around, starting by spending more time with his son. He asks to look after him for all of the next day, however the decision is up to Sally St Claire who is worried about Matthew-Jesus’s welfare with her son.

She decides to give John-Paul a chance to look after his son, telling him to prove himself by taking him to a comic event – but can he be trusted?

However, a decision from the McQueens keeps the father and son apart, leading John-Paul to spiral and drown his sorrows by drinking.

Sally tries to help him home but he lashes out at her, with devastating consequences.

John-Paul’s sister Mercedes attempts to reach out to rehab centres on his behalf, but she’s met with rejection.

Later, John-Paul is brought to tears after he reads a comic created by his son. The pair play a superhero game together, but things take a turn when John-Paul realises the villain in his son’s story is based off of him.

Will this be the wake-up call that John Paul needs?
