A familiar face from Doctors and EastEnders joins the Channel 4 soap.
Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Jonas Khan is joining the cast of Hollyoaks for a major storyline.
The actor has been cast in the Channel 4 soap as Zain, a local imam who catches Misbah Maalik’s eye when he makes a special trip to the village.
Zain comes to the Maalik family’s aid when Misbah’s son Imran begins to lose his faith in light of the family’s turmoil in recent months.
The family have been rocked by their fair share of hard times, with Sami Maalik having left the village and Misbah just now starting to move beyond her confrontations with rapist Ali Shahzad.
Zain will become an “agony aunt” for the family and the village at large when he arrives, but romance may also be on the cards as he gets to know Misbah.
“I’m very excited to be joining a progressive TV show such as Hollyoaks,” Jonas Khan said today. “A programme that always looks to push boundaries. Zain will look to bring some spirituality and guidance to the Maalik family and rest of the village.”
Khan has had some notable soap roles in the past, including playing troubled Jimmi Clay’s prison cellmate Leon Sharma in Doctors and Tiffany Butcher’s tormentor Bijan in EastEnders.
His wider CV includes appearances in TV shows Ackley Bridge, The Good Karma Hospital and Our Girl as well as the films Rock the Kasbah and The Sweeney.
The first appearance of Zain will air on Friday, February 18 on E4 and the following night on Channel 4.
Hollyoaks airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4. Selected omnibus episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video.
