Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks aired the emotional aftermath of Luke Morgan’s deadly Mallorca cliff fall during Wednesday’s (June 8) first-look episode on E4, officially confirming that Gary Lucy’s character had died.

The episode opened with touching scenes of Luke lying in his hospital bed as he looked back on his life via voiceover, describing it as being an “unforgettable ride”.

As his loved ones gathered by his side, a doctor confirmed they’d removed water from his lungs but he had sustained multiple serious injuries during the fall. She confirmed he was in a “critical moment” in his potential recovery and things could go either way.

Luke’s health then suddenly deteriorated, with the doctor telling Cindy it appeared her partner had a collapsed lung and he was taken into emergency surgery.

As Tony Hutchinson shared some touching memories of Luke’s resilience growing up and urged Luke’s son Ollie and his sister Zara not to write him off just yet, we saw Cindy falling to the floor after being delivered the devastating news that Luke’s operation hadn’t been a success.

“Luke’s organs sustained too much damage when he fell. There’s nothing more that they can do,” an emotional Cindy said, sharing it was time for them all to say goodbye.

Highly emotional scenes followed, as Luke’s nearest and dearest gathered about his hospital bed to say their last goodbyes, while, at the same time, Darren Osborne was back home meeting his baby daughter for the first time. Cindy broke down in tears as she said goodbye to her “Mr Perfect”, apologising that they would never get to have their perfect wedding day.

“From the second that we met, I knew it was you. I thought that we’d grow old together,” she told him as tears streamed down her face. “What we had, it feels like a lifetime… I love you, Luke. I will never stop loving you,” she said, planting a kiss on his cheek before totally breaking down.

The highly emotional episode ended with a sweet message Luke recorded for Cindy before his death during their sunny holiday, while Darren told Nancy he thought they should name their baby girl Morgan after their late friend.

Hollyoaks now streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
