Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale’s Faith Dingle finally tells her family the truth about her illness next week.
Faith has spent the past few weeks trying to prevent the rest of the Dingles from finding out that her cancer has returned and it’s incurable.
So far, only Faith’s daughter-in-law Moira Dingle and local nurse Wendy Posner know the truth. However, everything changes next week when the harsh attitude of Moira’s son Cain pushes her to breaking point.
In next week’s episodes, Faith asks her daughter Chas to make some plans for her birthday.
Faith privately hopes that the special occasion might give her a chance to finally build bridges with Cain.
Moira also steps in to help by promising Faith that she has a plan to make sure that Cain shows up.
As the gathering begins at The Woolpack, Cain is furious when he finds out that he has been tricked into attending Faith’s birthday party.
Moira bites her tongue over Cain’s bad behaviour, knowing that it’s only a matter of time before he finds out what’s really going on.
Later, with the rest of the family supporting Faith, bitter Cain refuses to move past their previous issues.
Cain cruelly says that his wish for Faith’s birthday is that she’ll drop dead.
Faith replies that her cancer is back and it’s incurable. What will the fallout from Faith’s bombshell be?
Sally Dexter, who plays Faith, recently discussed why her character has kept the Dingles in the dark for so long.
She said: “Faith fears that, if she lets Cain and Chas know, Cain in particular will pity her but still despise her.
“Faith thinks there’s no chance that they could have a proper, honest mother-and-son relationship without it being tinged with the question of: ‘Is Cain just being guilt-ridden and responding to Faith out of guilt, rather than because he loves her?’
“Would he be responding to her as a mother or responding to the cancer?”
Emmerdale airs these scenes on Thursday, June 16 at 7.30pm on ITV. The show also streams on the ITV Hub.
