“When you lose a parent, it can be life-changing.”
Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Jeff Hordley, best known for portraying the role of Cain Dingle in Emmerdale, has been dropping hints about his character’s next big storyline.
This will follow up on years of a tumultuous relationship with his mother Faith, who has fought breast cancer in the past and underwent a double mastectomy. Now, as her cancer spreads and becomes terminal, her inevitable exit from the show is nearing.
Hordley has now hinted what could be next for Cain as his mother gets increasingly ill and how he deals with losing a parent.
He told TV Times: “When you lose a parent, it can be life-changing, so it’ll be interesting to see what the after-effects are. I do know that after this there’s something else coming that’s pretty big. But I can’t tell you – I’ll lose my job!”
The star also hinted at what happens in the nearer future, with Cain opening up about his past in scenes that aired this week: “It’s in The Woolpack, after hours. The episode starts with the sun setting and ends on it rising the next day… he can’t deal with Faith leaving again, but that’s what he now has to face. It’s the most emotional I’ve ever been as Cain. I didn’t plan it; it all just came out.”
Despite Cain and Faith’s rocky relationship, Hordley said: “They come close to some sort of reconciliation this week and I’m hoping there’ll be more.”
However, with Faith’s time on Emmerdale drawing to a close due to her terminal illness, we are left to wonder what exactly will be next for the Dingles, and for Cain.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
