Charlotte Bellamy has shared her personal feelings about her character Laurel’s storyline on Emmerdale.
After Jai’s (Chris Bisson) financial struggles, Kim (Claire King) is planning to kick the couple out of their home.
While Laurel is distraught about potentially having to move on the show, Bellamy has revealed she also has some pretty strong emotions about the potential end of an era at Mulberry Cottage.
In a roundtable with Insertions.us and other media, Bellamy revealed that she would personally be “devastated” if Laurel was kicked out of her beloved home.
“That set is like part of my house. I’ve spent 20 years on that set, so I would be devastated if I ever move out. I think I’ve even said to [executive producer] Jane Hudson: ‘Jane, please don’t move me out of there’. I have so many memories. But you just do as you’re told!” she explained.
The star added that she “never, ever imagined staying so long”, but noted, “it’s just like Emmerdale is part of my blood really. My children have all been born in Yorkshire. I live round the corner from the village.
“I feel so lucky to be part of a team that is just so brilliant, genuine and hard-working and I never, ever take that for granted so I feel very, very lucky.”
The star also opened up about some of her more memorable storylines over the years.
“Obviously the cot death was pretty hard to play but very, very memorable, and of course the Ashley dementia story – it goes without saying that it was such an amazing story to tell and John [Middleton, who played Ashley] was so brilliant and I felt very proud to be part of that,” she explained. “So I would say those two stories.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
