We’re well into Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary year, with the anniversary itself coming up in October. Of course exact details of what’s set to happen are strictly under wraps, but it’s bound to come with a huge helping of drama.
‘There are going to be mind blowing stunts, more heartbreaks, secrets and lies are revealed,’ promised boss Jane Hudson back in January. ‘But at the heart of it, the best loved characters in our show are really going to be tested in some big emotional stories.’
The Dingles are among the best-loved characters on Emmerdale and one of the big emotional storylines they’re going through at the moment is Faith (Sally Dexter)’s cancer. We know that she probably only has months to live, so could her death be the tragic centre of the anniversary episodes?
Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas, revealed that she’s going to have a part to play in the anniversary: ‘I’ve got a little idea of what will be happening in the run-up to the 50th, which is filling me with a few butterflies,’ she told us. ‘It’s always unnerving when we’ve got big storylines coming up, or events like the 50th anniversary this year. I immediately think, “Oh God, they’re going to have to do something big for the 50th. Do they need to kill off a long-standing character in a spectacular way? Is that my exit?”’
It’s less likely to be Chas’s exit – but the sad death of Faith would certainly provide the 50th anniversary with some heart-rending and unforgettable scenes.
