EastEnders star Kellie Bright speaks out on Linda and Janine’s devastating accident

“There is a moment where we don’t know if Linda will live or die.”

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Kellie Bright has opened up about Linda Carter and Janine Butcher’s car accident coming up on the soap.

In scenes airing next week, Linda and Nancy will head off on a trip to Watford, though the latter confronts her mother about why she nearly left Walford recently before storming off back home.

However, Linda is left stranded when her car breaks down and turns to alcohol, and Janine learns of this before heading out by cab to see her.

“By then Linda is drunk!” Kellie explains. “She is not expecting to see Janine, she’s trying to get the car started but in the meantime has found a bottle of vodka in the glove compartment and has drunk it. By the time Janine shows up she is absolutely plastered.”

The actress went on to reveal: “They both end up in the car and Janine drives them home, they are in an argument which reaches a crescendo and the car crashes.

“And after that it goes very dark and some very bad things happen. Linda is in critical condition and is really not well! There is a moment where we don’t know if Linda will live or die.”

The scenes will no doubt be a shock for viewers, especially with Linda’s life hanging in the balance.

Meanwhile, Kellie admitted it “was so much fun” to film the stunt, recalling: “We didn’t get to do the actual stunt, we did what they call ‘the swerve’. We’re in a stunt car and there’s a guy sat on top of the car in a kind of go-kart crash kit thing, he is controlling the car from above.

“He drives it and makes it skid across the road, but it looks like you’re doing it, but we’re just reacting to the swerve, it was really good fun. That was the only bit we did, then all the aftermath which you will not believe what happens! Janine makes some decisions and shows her true colours… It is true Janine!”

EastEnders airs these scenes in the week commencing Monday, June 6 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
