Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) was left traumatised in EastEnders, after a drug-fuelled make-out session with James resulted in him seeing a hallucination of rapist Lewis Butler (Aidan O’Callaghan).

The mechanic, as viewers are aware, has been struggling in the wake of his rape ordeal earlier this year, with recent scenes having seen him starting to take drugs.

Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) was left horrified when she discovered last month that he’d been resorting to drugs, and thus she has gone out of her way to help him.

Ben, however, has struggled to open up about his ordeal, and this – coupled with the guilt he’s been feeling over his role in Jags Panesar’s death – has led to him spiralling out of control.

Monday’s (August 1) offering of the BBC One soap saw him spend the night with James, who played a key role in getting Ben hooked on drugs in the first place.

Kathy offered Ben some advice, instructing him to put his daughter first and attend her dance exam instead of going to another party, and despite his doubts, Ben agrees.

A confrontation, however, soon ensued when Lexi wanted to know why he turned up late to her exam. Ben lashed out at her, leaving her upset.

Feeling guilty once more, the young man sought solace in drugs and booze, as he headed to the party with James.

He began to make out with James during the party, after consuming a serious amount of alcohol, and he was left horrified when he pulled away to see Lewis staring back at him.

The hallucination left him spooked, and James therefore called him a cab, but upon arriving back in the Square, Ben collapsed and subsequently lost consciousness.

Will he be okay?
