EastEnders has revealed a family secret that could tear the Panesar family apart.
Wednesday’s episode featured the return of Ash Kaur, after she left the Square temporarily earlier in the year when she was the victim of a homophobic attack.
It was Ash’s birthday now, but Suki announced to Vinny and Dotty she wouldn’t be forwarding on any birthday cards since her daughter wanted nothing to do with the family.
In secret, Suki’s anger was actually because she’d received a notice that her estranged ex-husband Nishandeep was being released from prison after serving time for murder.
Suki hid the news from the rest of her family, but secretly opened up to local lawyer Eve Unwin about her concerns over her ex-husband being released.
When she asked if she could get an order of protection, Eve told her that she would have to prove to a court that Nishandeep was a danger to the family.
“Kids don’t know the real him, but that hasn’t stopped them from building him into something he’s not,” she explained to Eve.
Suki wondered if she could simply ask his probation officer to keep him away from the family, only for Eve to point out that wouldn’t work.
“You’d have to do a lot more than that to actually stop him,” Eve noted.
Their conversation was interrupted by a customer at the Minute Mart, leading Suki to hurriedly ask Eve to “forget about” what they’d discussed.
Later, Suki returned home to find Ash had returned to Walford. Ash tried to mend fences by revealing spending time with her nephew made her realise “it’s not easy raising kids on your own”.
“I know we don’t see eye to eye on everything, but there’s more that unites us than divides us,” she reckoned.
With Ash now back in the fold, Suki stole a moment alone to burn the letter about Nishandeep’s release rather than tell her children the truth.
More secrets are festering within the Panesar family in upcoming scenes, as Suki learns the truth about why Ash has actually come back to Walford.
EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
