Who will Sarah believe?
Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street schemer Lydia Chambers will go through with her cruel plan next week, falsely accusing Adam Barlow of cheating on his wife Sarah.
Lydia (Rebecca Ryan) is out for revenge against Adam over the way he treated her when they were together at university. She’s also hurt as he failed to remember her when they were reintroduced a few weeks ago.
In recent days, viewers have seen Lydia start trying to plant seeds of doubt in Sarah’s mind over Adam’s faithfulness.
Lydia has told Sarah (Tina O’Brien) that she’s having an affair with a married ex-boyfriend. She has also started to leave behind false “clues” which could back up her story.
Next week, these efforts start to pay off as Adam (Samuel Robertson) receives a phone call from the hotel where he spent Valentine’s Day meeting a client.
Sarah takes the call and hears that a watch belonging to a female guest of Adam’s has been found from his last visit.
At the factory, Lydia soon rubs salt into the wound by making out that she has spent the night with her mystery lover again.
Soon afterwards, Sarah returns home and searches through Adam’s receipts. She’s concerned to find one from an expensive lingerie shop in London.
Sarah’s next move is to call the hotel and query Adam’s bill.
The receptionist confirms that Adam ordered champagne and oysters last time he was there.
Believing she knows exactly what has been going on, Sarah confronts Lydia with her suspicions.
Lydia turns on the waterworks and “admits” that she’s having an affair with Adam. She claims that they couldn’t resist each other due to the connection from their past.
Lydia’s false claims are interrupted when Adam returns home.
Adam promises Sarah that Lydia is lying, but Sarah shows him the receipts and how they back up Lydia’s story.
As Adam desperately tries to get Sarah to believe him, is he fighting a losing battle?
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Friday, February 25 at 7.30pm on ITV.
