Coronation Street’s Kevin and Abi Webster face police quiz over death

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street’s Kevin and Abi Webster both face tough questions from the police tonight (June 2).

An official investigation has been launched by the local force after Imran Habeeb died in a tragic car accident.

Early clues have suggested that Imran and his wife Toyah’s vehicle failed to brake when it crashed into some scaffolding.

This suggests that the brakes could have been tampered with, which now puts Kevin firmly in the frame.

In Thursday’s episode, Kevin is questioned down at the station.

This poses a tough predicament for Kevin, as he sneakily sabotaged the car’s ignition on the day of the crash and also delayed a subsequent repair.

Kevin’s scheming was all in aid of supporting Abi’s escape plan with baby Alfie, and while none of his actions should have harmed anyone, they now make him look guilty regardless.

Abi is also questioned as a potential witness and she has to decide how much it’s safe to reveal.

Meanwhile, a grieving Kelly Neelan makes her own contribution to the investigation, telling the police that Imran was preparing to retract his recent lies over Abi’s drug use when the crash happened.

Imran’s departure from Corrie was storylined after Charlie de Melo, who played him, decided to leave the show.

Charlie recently told and other media: “It got to a stage where I was enjoying myself so much over there and constantly being challenged and constantly being put in front of some of the most talented people I’ve ever worked with.

“That meant that I saw a version of myself that would literally be staying there until I was booted. I came to the realisation that I have no spouse, I have no car or mortgage or kids, or any of these kinds of things that would otherwise necessitate consistency.

“I thought if I didn’t close my eyes and step off into the void now, then I never will. So, it was nothing to do with the job. If anything, the job was really keeping me rooted and I had such a wonderful time there, but it was just a case of: ‘If not now, when?'”

Coronation Street airs at the earlier time of 7.30pm all this week on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
