Sparks are flying.
Coronation Street has lined up an interesting episode for Ken Barlow, as new scenes show him bonding with his old flame Wendy.
Wendy made a return to the cobbles recently, after last appearing back in 2012, as part of a storyline involving Abi Webster – she is baby Alfie’s foster carer.
When Wendy informs Abi about her long history with Ken, Abi encourages her to go meet with Ken to smooth things over between the two. Abi even offers to distract Tracy – who isn’t thrilled at Wendy’s return – so she can have a conversation with him.
However, that doesn’t go according to plan and Tracy is furious when she sees Ken and Wendy walking out of the cafe together, leaving Ken in a tough spot.
In upcoming scenes, Ken approaches Wendy and invites her for coffee at his house, later offering to share a lasagne with her.
As they catch up, Ken then tells Wendy he knows what it’s like to be lonely as he still misses his late wife Deirdre. As fans may recall, Wendy is also widowed – her husband passed away in 2006.
Could sparks fly again between the pair?
Roberta Kerr, who plays Wendy, previously shared her feelings on returning to Coronation Street for the first time in a decade.
“It’s great, fantastic. It’s a completely different place, of course, because the last time I was here it was 2012 and it was before they moved [to the new set]. It’s very, very new,” she said.
She also praised Sally Carman, who plays Abi, saying: “She’s great and fantastic. We have some friends in common, which is really nice. I’ve worked with a theatre company that Sally has worked with so we’ve got that to chat about as well.
“She’s so friendly, it’s great. I do still know some of the cast from before, and I’ve met with people who have just started because it’s quite a small world.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
