Coronation Street star Colson Smith calls for Bethany Platt to return

“A brilliant person to have around.”

Coronation Street’s Colson Smith is keen to see Lucy Fallon back on the Weatherfield cobbles as Bethany Platt.

It’s been over two years since the actress took off from the soap, with subsequent jobs arriving in the form of Audible’s scare-a-thon Sour Hall and Don’t Rock the Boat, but she’s made it known there’s always a chance Beth might return.

Smith, who’s played Craig Tinker for 11 years now, recently told Inside Soap that she’s his dream pick if Corrie could reintroduce someone to the cast.

“She’s one of my best mates now and we get on so well,” he said.

“Working with her is like working with Lisa [George] and Ellie [Leach] – we always support each other. Craig and Bethany were a great duo and Lucy’s a brilliant person to have around. Everyone would be very happy is she came back.”

In January 2021, Fallon explained her thought process to Talks with Ryan when it comes to revisiting the soap in the future.

“I would but there are so many things I want to do first. When you’re in Corrie, you’re quite tied down to the schedule. I feel I’m going to take this time focus on myself, doing shit I want to do,” she pointed out.

“Never say never. I didn’t leave for any particular reason. I didn’t leave because I didn’t like it. I left because I wanted to go down different avenues.”

Further along his chat, the Craig actor was asked which character he’d like to play if his policeman wasn’t on the table.

“I’d say James Bailey, then I’d get to live out my footballer dream – I think that’s the closest I’d ever get. He gets to wear tracksuits all day long, whereas I have to put on a 10-layer police uniform, which is fine until we get to summer and I’m left sweltering!” Smith replied.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
