Coronation Street fans stunned by Imran star Charlie de Melo’s new look

Charlie De Melo’s Instagram profile describes him as a ‘Scumbag of Leisure’ since his dramatic departure from Coronation Street – and he’s showcasing a new, relaxed look to match.

Imran Habeeb was known for his suave appearance and neatly-trimmed beard and moustache. He was a lawyer, after all, and had to look the part. In recent photos posted to his Instagram, he’s lost the beard and is sporting a large, droopy moustache.

The facial fur has caused quite a stir among Charlie’s followers, with a few famous names popping up with a view.

‘THAT is a tache!! ❤️’ says Russell T. Davies, iconic writer and producer of It’s A Sin and Doctor Who.

Charlie’s Corrie co-star Sally Ann Matthews, AKA Jenny Bradley, says, ‘I spy 1970’s porn star x’ while others think the vibe is more reminiscent of a certain 1980s TV detective played by Tom Selleck. ‘Auditioning to be the new Magnum PI?’ and ‘Your rocking the Magnum PI look Charlie 😂’ are just two of the comments that reference the show.

It’s not just the moustache that’s got people talking, either. Look closely and you’ll spot a little nose stud, which gets general approval. ‘The nose piercing is great, the ‘tache is….yeah….’ is one verdict.

Charlie left Weatherfield after a long and dramatic storyline in which his formerly upstanding character Imran descended to criminal behaviour in a vicious custody battle with Abi Franklin (Sally Carman). He eventually died in a dramatic car crash and his wife Toyah (Georgia Taylor), who was driving the car, is currently awaiting trial as she’s accused of deliberately trying to kill him.

Charlie will appear on stage in Alan Bennett’s play The Clothes They Stood Up In at Nottingham Playhouse from September 9 to October 1. He’s also been playing the part of Borachio in a new film version of Much Ado About Nothing set in Mexico in the early 20th century, which will be released next year.
