Of all the times to show up…
Coronation Street spoilers follow.
West End star Jodie Prenger makes her Coronation Street debut next week as Glenda Shuttleworth – and she picks quite the moment to arrive on the cobbles.
Before George Shuttleworth’s sister shows up, though, he has some issues to deal with when he breaks a tooth while eating some pork which Sean has overcooked.
While George promises to go and see a dentist, he still has the funeral for Mr Pugh to take care of, as well as the chance that he may have to sell his business – which leads to a bit of a scrap when he bumps into Troy, who works for a competitor and is contemplating buying the business.
Unfortunately for George, Mrs Pugh witnesses the fight between Troy and George – and a conversation with Todd soon makes George realise he may have to sell up, as he contemplates Troy’s £400,000 offer for the business.
Things only get worse for George when he arrives for the funeral while off his face on Eileen’s painkillers for his toothache – leaving Todd to force him into the car so that he doesn’t make more of a scene and ruin the funeral.
Mrs Pugh notices though and voices her displeasure to Todd, but while all that is going on, Glenda then shows up right in the middle of it and instantly takes charge.
But how will George react when he wakes up to see that his sister has made a surprise arrival right when he needed help the most?
Coronation Street’s executive producer Iain MacLeod spoke about the new arrival to the cobbles recently, saying: “Glenda sails in fresh from the cruise ships with a whiff of the exotic, quickly making best friends and enemies in equal measure.
Describing the character as “loads of fun” with “echoes” of Corrie’s iconic women over the decades, MacLeod added: “Jodie is a fabulous talent, and we are all very excited to have her aboard.
“She has felt very Corrie since the moment she stepped onto set and I think the viewers will love her.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
