8 huge Coronation Street storylines airing in August

A new month is about to arrive, so we’re here with all the gossip on what you can expect from Coronation Street in the next few weeks.

As we build towards the all-important autumn storylines, there are new challenges ahead for the Weatherfield residents and some relationships are coming under strain…

  1. Stu’s secret is revealed

Stu will be taking centre stage across August, as viewers learn more about what he has been hiding from Yasmeen. In a recent scene with his estranged daughter Bridget, Stu mysteriously protested his innocence over a woman who had been harmed, although we didn’t get the full details at the time.

Next week, Stu’s ex-wife Lucy visits Speed Daal and shares the full story with Yasmeen. Stu has his own version of events, but who is telling the truth?

Bill Fellows, who plays Stu, recently told Insertions.us and other press: “Eventually all the lies build up. I think the audience will be shocked and surprised. Will they believe him? There’s so much to discuss. This is just the start.”

  1. Stu’s family storyline continues

A few weeks ago, Corrie actor Bill Fellows was spotted filming on location for scenes outside the home of Stu’s daughter Bridget. These weren’t the scenes that aired on TV recently, so there’ll be another trip to the house airing on our screens in the next few weeks.

Paparazzi photographs showed Stu discovering that he has a granddaughter, which is sure to be bittersweet as he remains estranged from his family. Can he ever make peace with his loved ones and be part of their lives again?

  1. Glenda arrives

Corrie bosses recently announced the casting of West End star Jodie Prenger in the role of George Shuttleworth’s sister Glenda. Glenda makes her first appearance next Friday (August 5), rushing to the rescue of George after he’s unable to carry out a funeral amid a toothache-related drama.

Jodie recently said: “I know I sound like a soppy sod, but it’s been on my bucket list to be in Coronation Street since I was little. It’s an honour, it truly is a very special moment in my life.

“To be part of something my family and I have loved for so long. And what a character, oh I have to say, total dream part. I can’t wait for you all to meet fun and sassy Glenda, George Shuttleworth’s sister.”

  1. Jenny and Leo’s relationship under threat

In a recent chat with Insertions.us on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards, Sally Ann Matthews – who plays Jenny – warned that her character’s relationship with Leo could be about to hit the rocks.

The early signs of trouble begin on screen next week, as Daisy and Daniel realise that Leo is hiding something from Jenny. When Daisy tips off Jenny, she demands answers from Leo – is it really all over?

  1. Ryan faces deep trouble

Ryan goes ahead with Debbie’s idea of an insurance scam at the Bistro next week, staging a robbery after sneakily cutting the power in the building. However, when Ed reveals that the Bistro’s CCTV has a back-up circuit, the police investigate and Ryan’s guilt is exposed.

After being arrested, Ryan does all he can to get himself out of trouble, while Debbie lives in fear that he could expose her involvement. Will Ryan be sent down?

  1. Sean gets another new love interest

Sean’s recent relationship with Frank ended badly, but he won’t let that put him off and quickly gets back in the dating game this month.

As Sean gets to know a newcomer called Laurence, will things run more smoothly than they did with Frank?

  1. Kelly’s new mishap

Life is never quiet for Kelly and there’s more trouble to come from her in August as she has a minor car accident while out driving.

Aadi comes to Kelly’s rescue after the incident, turning up on a children’s bike. The teens have already started dating, but could the car calamity bring them even closer?

  1. Stephen’s possible setback

Stephen has rubbed some people up the wrong way since returning to Weatherfield, but is everything as it seems with the businessman?

Paparazzi photographs taken during filming last month showed Stephen looking down-on-his-luck as he shopped for budget clothes at a cheap shop.

This is far from Stephen’s usual style, so could it be a hint of a possible setback or has he been lying to his family all along?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
